In the sales context or when trying to get a meeting, a “gatekeeper” is the person we view as keeping us from getting target (e.g. executive).  However, let’s assume that he/she is operating with positive intent, ensuring the executive is as efficient and effective as possible, managing the calendar to priorities.

Your task is simple. You need to convey that you ARE a priority because you will help that executive achieve their goals.  Get the gatekeeper to understand and you may be on your way.  During my career, I have made friends with many gatekeepers!
