After being rejected for business loans more than thirty times, through her persistence, she was able to purchase WOL-AM in 1980.  From that first station, where she worked tirelessly, she built Radio One (now Urban One) into a multi-media conglomerate with more than 56 radio stations across the country.  Urban One, Inc. is the largest African-American-owned and operated broadcast company in the nation.  

Through radio, television, and digital media, Cathy has provided platforms for voices and stories that otherwise may not have been heard or seen.
