Success Thought of the Day – 2/16/22: Langston Hughes

I will not take ‘but’ for an answer. – Langston Hughes

Langston Hughes is known for his insightful portrayals of black life in America through novels, short stories, plays, and poetry.  His life and work were influential in shaping the artistic contributions of the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s.

He consciously chose to fuse his personal experience and the shared experience of black America to tell the stories of his people in ways that reflected their actual culture. As noted by critic Donald B. Gibson, “Until the time of his death, he spread his message humorously—though always seriously—to audiences throughout the country, having read his poetry to more people (possibly) than any other American poet.”
