Success Thought of the Day – 3/30/21

Opportunities and success are not something you go after necessarily but something you attract by becoming an attractive person. – Jim Rohn

Working hard towards opportunities and success is one thing, but you increase your odds when you become an attractive person.  So, what is the definition of an attractive person professionally?  There is a common theme often heard when you ask others.  It is someone that you “know, like, and trust.”

The “know” and “trust” parts seem to get addressed intuitively.  People promote their skills and competencies, and people gain trust by delivering on their promises (e.g., objectives, goals, etc.).  However, the “like” part can often hang out there a bit.

Likeability is a real thing.  Parkhar Verma captured it well in his essay when he stated, “Likability is a skill so complex that some people call it the X-factor. It is so powerful that many companies reject people if they don’t like them, even if they are overly qualified for the job. Instead, they choose someone who is more likable that has just enough technical skills.”

Work towards being attractive, holistically, and authentically as you move forward in your career.
