Success Thought of the Day – 7/5/18: Planning supports belief
For the past few days, we have focused on leaping into the 2nd half of this year, 1st getting our mindset around where we are, being clear that we must “Decide and Move” in order to reach success. 2nd, we covered the truism of the fact that life will happen, but how we respond to a situation determines what happens next, inclusive of revisiting or setting our goals. Now we must plan as planning supports belief.
If we have decided to move forward, have a mindset to respond correctly to situations and have aligned our goals, we must have a plan to reach those goals. My advice is to not overcomplicate this by looking for the best plan design templates and things such as that unless you just want to. That is not the point. I love to just go to the definition of words to get grounded for a moment.
By definition, a plan is a method for achieving an end.
Example of a Plan
So, a plan, for example, for achieving my goal of having dinner tonight at 7 PM.
- 3:00 PM Determine the meal for the evening and create the grocery list
- 4:00 PM Go to the grocery store
- 6:00 PM Begin cooking
- 6:50 PM Serve dinner to everyone at the table
A rudimentary example yes, a poor one maybe as I don’t cook – yes! :). But a plan to achieve a goal, yes!
Do the same for each of your goals, ensuring you have the specific tasks that will need to be done, in sequence with dates (and if necessary, times) listed for each task.
Also, for those of you that must have a resource to develop a more comprehensive plan, I am going to recommend getting a copy of The 12 Week Year: Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others Do in 12 Months by Brian Moran.
