Success Thought of the Day – 7/19/19: The Power of Character

With each decision and action, you build and shape your character.  As a career or business builder, consider that your character precedes your resume or sales pitch, so treat it with care.

Success Thought of the Day – 7/18/19: Focus on what matters

If the career you are chasing, stripped of money and prestige, makes you feel good, you are on the right track.

As with all things, it is a journey and will take work.  However, you’re going to work regardless, how much better time spent in work you find fulfilling?!  Your fulfillment will lead to your true fortune.

Success Thought of the Day – 7/17/19: Invest in Yourself

Read 10 pages of a good book, listen to an audiobook or podcast (hmm, I have one I can recommend :).
The small daily deposits add up!

Success Thought of the Day – 7/16/19: The Steps Along The Way

Short term goals help you break the “big picture’ down into bite-size pieces. Completing them provide boosts of excitement, reflection, and energy. More importantly, they are additive and have a cumulative effect on helping you reach your long term plan.

There are goal planning sheets here if you need some!

Success Thought of the Day – 7/15/19: Decide and Start

We all have our tendencies. By my very nature, I tend to focus on the “why,” the strategy and how in terms of the pursuit of my passion. Even long after the why and strategy are settled, I can go on and on configuring and reconfiguring the “how.” At the end of the day, plans are great, but in the words of Mike Tyson, everyone has a plan until they get punched.

Once you know that you know what you are in pursuit of, make the decision to do it or not. If you decide the answer is yes, then start. Get out of the safe laboratory of your mind and get your passion out on the road.

Success Thought of the Day – 7/12/19: Perspective

In the early 2000s, I was a part of a project team to eliminate paychecks and paper payroll statements at JPMorgan Chase.  It may not sound like a big deal now, but back then, it was for the 60,000 plus people that received them. Further, to our knowledge, no other company had done it at scale.

Concerns, despair and even a bit of controversy began to stir as folks believed that employees were pretty wed to “their paper.”  However, as a team, we stayed focused on “the stars.” We saw the possibilities for the employees and the company, and got it done!

I have learned that as you come face-to-face with challenges, your perspective can make the difference.   You can focus on the crud and despair of the mud or the wonder and possibilities of the stars. That is a choice.

Success Thought of the Day – 7/11/19: To Become

Educational paths serve to prepare you, titles can serve a purpose for a season, but neither can define you.  Keep your long-term journey in front of you, treating “evolution” as if it were your middle name, growing daily.
Your journey towards your passion and purpose are worth it, take inventory.

Success Thought of the Day – 7/10/19

Last year reading “goodby things” prompted me to take inventory and to ask “additive, neutral or distracting to my journey?”
If distracting, they must go. If neutral, evaluate relative to replacing with something more additive.
Your journey towards your passion and purpose are worth it, take inventory.

Serving others through mentorship doesn’t require a title nor extensive experience.  There is always someone less experienced than you, wishing they were in your shoes, just as you did years before.

Don’t overthink it. Give back joyfully as opportunities arise.

Success Thought of the Day – 7/8/19

What an internal trifecta!  The question is, can you answer all three in the affirmative?

If not, give thought to what you need to change to make it so.  Once you know the “what,” you can create the “how.”

Success Thought of the Day – 7/3/19

If it is worth pursuing, it is worth hanging on for your success.  Barriers and challenges are inevitable, tighten your grip and keep after it.

Success Thought of the Day – 7/2/19

When we venture out of our comfort zones to the unfamiliar, we expand our options and our perspective.

Who are you willing to cure?
It’s mid-year, a time when we typically reflect on the goals we set for the year, consider what adjustments we need to make in order to reach them or we quietly give up on them.

Help cure someone’s struggle to find their way or disbelief in reaching that goal with the gift of feedback.

Success Thought of the Day – 6/28/19

Of course, we would love for life to be life school with a detailed syllabus so we know what we are going to learn, what we will be tested on and when. In reality, it doesn’t work that way.  Embrace each test, trail, barrier, and challenge as a part of your journey, making you stronger and building your resilience for the rest of the way.

Change is inevitable.  Growth is optional. – John C. Maxwell While Uber hopping around New York today I was chatting with one of the drivers as I enjoy learning about people, their backgrounds and where they want to go in life. One driver shared that he came to the United States six years ago and… Read More »Success Thought of the Day – 6/27/19

Success Thought of the Day – 6/26/19

Scientists have said that on average an adult makes up to 35,000 remotely conscious choices each day.  Over 200 of them are about food alone.  At the moment, a singular choice can feel insignificant but a series of related choices often form a habit and a cumulative result.

Consciously make a choice about how you will begin each day.  Randomly based on how you feel when you wake up OR with a focused list aimed at your passion, goals and a few priorities to guide you through the day.

We are truly less than “perfectly polished.”

That is not weakness, there is no shame and you don’t have to present a façade to appear “perfect,” at least not with the right folks. [Read more at link]
